Zusammenfassung
2500 Patienten wurden 714mal mit Antibiotika behandelt. 170 mit Penicillin (5: allergisches
Exanthem); 50 mit Streptomycin (1: lokale Reizerscheinung an der Injektionsstelle);
220 mit Penicillin + Streptomycin (5: allergisches Exanthem, 1: Glossitis); 117 mit
Tetracyclin (1: allergisches Exanthem, 1: allergischer Temperaturanstieg, 6: Enterokolitis);
3 mit Terramycin (1: Appetitlosigkeit, Magendruck); 50 mit Chloramphenicol (2: allergisches
Exanthem, 2: Enterokolitis, 1: Soorpneumonie); 15 mit Erythromycin (1: Kollaps); 11
mit Oleandomycin (1: Übelkeit); 76 mit Tyrosolvin (1: Gesichtsexanthem bei Inhalation)
und 2 mit Polymyxin B (1: Durchfall). Während die leichten Nebenerscheinungen bei
einem Wechsel des Antibiotikums verschwanden, ist die Anzahl der ernsten Nebenerscheinungen
gering. Die Nachteile der Antibiotika stehen in keinem Verhältnis zu ihren großen
therapeutischen Wirkungen.
Summary
Careful records were kept of the type and incidence of side-effects in 714 patients
treated with antibiotics for a large variety of diseases in the course of one year
in the medical wards of a general municipal hospital. Of 170 patients treated with
penicillin 5 developed a skin rash; of 50 on streptomycin, 1 had a local allergic
response; of 220 on penicillin + streptomycin, 5 developed allergic skin rashes and
1 a glossitis; of 117 on tetracyclin, 1 had an allergic skin rash, 1 an allergic pyrexia,
and 6 developed an enterocolitis; of 3 on terramycin, 1 complained of loss of appetite
and epigastric fullness; of 50 on chloramphenicol, 2 developed an allergic skin rash,
2 enterocolitis and 1 monilia pneumonia; of 15 on erythromycin, 1 had a collapse;
of 11 on oleandomycin, 1 complained of nausea; of 76 on tyrothricin, 1 developed a
facial rash on inhalation of the drug; of 2 on polymycin B, 1 had diarrhoea. The various
side effects disappeared when the type of antibiotic was changed; only very few of
the effects were, in any event, serious enough to cause concern.

De los 2500 enfermos tratados en un año, lo fueron con antibióticos 714. A continuación
se indica el número de tratamientos con cada uno de los antibióticos; entre paréntesis
figuran la frecuencia y el tipo de las manifestaciones secundarias. 170 con penicilina
(5: exantema alérgico); 50 con estreptomicina (1: fenómenos irritativos en el sitio
de la inyección); 220 con penicilina y estreptomicina (5: exantema alérgico, 1: glositis);
117 con tetraciclina (1: exantema alérgico, 1: hipertermia alérgica, 6: enterocolitis);
3 con terramicina (1: anorexia, sensación de peso en epigastrio); 50 con cloramfenicol
(2: exantema alérgico, 2: enterocolitis, 1: neumonia por Oidium albicans); 15 con
eritromicina (1: colapso); 11 con oleandomicina (1: náuseas); 76 con tirosolvina (1:
exantema de la cara en administración por inhalación) y 2 con polimixina B (1: diarrea).
Las manifestaciones secundarias leves cedieron al cambiar de antibiótico; las graves
se presentaron con frecuencia relativamente baja. Las desventajas de los antibióticos
están en franca desproporción con sus considerables efectos beneficiosos gracias a
los cuales se han salvado muchos enfermos que antes hubiesen fallecido.
