Zusammenfassung
Ein 30jähriger Mann erhielt zur Psoriasis-Behandlung innerhalb von 22 Tagen 51 Mill.
I.E. Vitamin A (A-Mulsin-Hochkonzentrat®). Es kam zu typischen Symptomen der Vitamin-A-Vergiftung, ferner trat eine Reihe
bisher nicht beschriebener Symptome auf: vier Wochen anhaltende Bewußtseinstrübung,
akutes Nierenversagen, Hyperglykämie und aplastische Anämie. Zusätzlich stellten sich
schwere infektiöse Komplikationen ein: eitrige Peritonitis, Bronchopneumonie, Staphylokokken-
und Candida-Sepsis. Nach dreimonatiger stationärer Behandlung und hausärztlicher Nachbetreuung
von weiteren vier Monaten konnte eine weitgehende Wiederherstellung erzielt werden.
Summary
51 million I. U. vitamin A were administered to a 30-year-old man for the treatment
of psoriasis. Typical signs and symptoms of vitamin A intoxication occurred. In addition
there were other not previously described ones, namely clouding of consciousness for
four weeks, acute renal failure, hyperglycaemia and aplastic anaemia. There were also
severe infectious complications: purulent peritonitis, bronchopneumonia, staphylococcal
and Candida septicaemia. Practically complete cure was achieved after three months'
hospitalization and a further four months' treatment at home.
