Zusammenfassung
Wenn Tumorzellen nachgewiesen sind, vermag der Zytologe oft zusätzliche Angaben über
den Primärtumor mitzuteilen. Im Zusammenspiel mit den klinischen Daten vermag er den
Ursprung teils mit Sicherheit, teils mit Wahrscheinlichkeit anzugeben oder auch nur
eine differentialdiagnostische Wahrscheinlichkeitsfolge anzubieten. Auch das Ausschließen
einiger differentialdiagnostischer Möglichkeiten kann wesentlich sein. Auf die Bedeutung
der Zytodiagnostik wird speziell hingewiesen. Die Leistungsfähigkeit der klinischen
Zytologie hängt sehr ab von der Art und Weise, in der Kliniker und Zytologe zusammenarbeiten.
Summary
The results obtained by diagnostic cytology greatly depend on the way the clinician
and the cytologist are working together. When malignant cells and cellgroups are found
the primary tumour often can be indicated or at least tipped, if the cytologist himself
can direct his examinations and coordinate his findings with other clinical data.
The same accounts for the diagnosis of benign processes. In the latter case a timely
precise-cytodiagnostic report of a well-informed cytologist can save much trouble
to the clinician and even the patient's life.
