Summary

Between 1970 and 1974 347 colonoscopic examinations were performed. The patients received 20 g magnesium sulfate, two enemas two hours and one hour before the examination and 20 mg Buscopan intravenously. In 60 patients with negative barium enema and clinical symptoms (rectal bleeding in 34, diarrhea in 9, lower abdominal pain in 7 and miscellanous in 10) 16 showed pathologies on colonoscopy including 3 carcinomas. Therefore, colonoscopy should be performed in all patients whose complaints can not be explained by normal X-ray findings.

Zusammenfassung

Aufgrund der Erfahrungen bei 60 Patienten mit unauffälligem Kontrasteinlauf und klinischen Symptomen wie Blut im Stuhl, Unterbauchschmerzen oder Durchfall, von denen 16 einen pathologischen Befund aufwiesen, sollte die Indikation zu einer koloskopischen Untersuchung weitgestellt werden.
