Summary

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a popular and extremely useful technique for investigating the pancreatico-biliary tree. While the mortality is low, rare complications i.e., pancreatic abscess, may prove lethal. Surgical backup must be available to obviate recognized complications following ERCP.

Zusammenfassung

Die endoskopisch retrograde Cholangiopankreatikographie (ERCP) ist eine weitverbreitete und sehr ergiebige Untersuchungsmethode des Pankreas-Gallengang-Systems. Seltene Komplikationen wie ein Pankreasabszeß können letal ausgehen. Eine enge Kooperation mit einer chirurgischen Abteilung ist Grundvoraussetzung, um Komplikationen der ERCP rasch zu beseitigen.
