Abstract
Four species of Penstemon were studied for their steroidal and cardinolide constituents
using tic. The Chromatographie patterns of the ethanol and water extracts were characteristic
for each species. The sixteen plant parts examined contained five different digitalis
glycosides. All plant parts contained significant quantities of cardinolides.
The chromatograms indicated that a number of additional unidentified cardinolide compounds
were present in all of the extracts.
