Introduction

Red eye is one of the leading symptoms for a patient to visit the ophthalmic emergency aid worldwide [1]. Many conditions causing red eye are benign, but physicians should be careful not to miss some of the rare and potentially life-threatening etiologies [2]. With the case presented here, we aim to further emphasize the importance of a thorough medical history and a complete clinical examination, despite the typical setting of a hectic ophthalmic emergency department. We present a case of a woman that was initially diagnosed with conjunctivitis ultimately ending in a fulminant diagnosis with a significant impact on the patientʼs survival.
