Significance

Stemonamide is a member of the family of stemona alkaloids, which are isolated from the roots of Stemona japonica, used for the treatment of coughs and as pesticides in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine. This synthesis relies on a radical cascade to construct the tri­cyclic core of stemonamide.
