Significance

A ruthenium-catalyzed C-C bond-forming transfer hydrogenation protocol is presented in this work. The use of the ruthenium catalyst permits the direct vinylation of primary alcohols or aldehydes in good to very good yields. Internal aliphatic or aromatic alkynes serve as vinyl donors, and a cyclic variation is also demonstrated.
