Significance

In previous work the authors have reported the asymmetric cyclopropanation of various olefin substrates with diazoacetates using several Co-porphyrin complexes. Additionally, others have utilized Cu, Rh, Ru systems to effect cyclopropanation while also making use of diazo­acetates as carbene sources. In the present study a cobalt-porphyrin complex is applied to catalyze the cyclopropanation of a variety of olefinic substrates in excellent yields and selectivites, employing diazosulfones as the carbene source.
