Significance

Several methods for asymmetric allylic alkylation exist which can introduce various nucleophiles such as nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen. This reaction is often plagued by side reactions or multiple alkylations. The authors describe the allylic alkylation of nitromethane and show its use in the synthesis of two natural products.
