Significance

Vinyl silanes are useful intermediates in organic synthesis due to their versatile reactivity in electrophilic substitutions or cross-couplings. The direct regioselective conversion of acetylenes into vinyl silanes is the simplest way of their preparation. The authors reported herein a highly practical method for this transformation, using N-heterocyclic carbenes and Ni(0) as the catalytic system. In many cases, high regioselectivities were achieved. The reaction proceeds within few minutes at room temperature, which makes the process very convenient.
