Significance

Here the authors report a pyrrolidine-thiourea bifunctional catalyst for the enantioselective Michael addition of cyclohexanone to nitroolefins. The authors have observed an improved reaction rate when using n-butyric acid as additive. With 20 mol% of the catalyst 1, good to excellent yields (63-99%) and excellent enantioselectivities (88-98%) are obtained for different aryl and alkyl nitroolefins.
