Significance

The authors have reported an immobilization technique for Sc(OTf)3. The PMI Sc(OTf)3, which was prepared from copolymer 1 and Sc(OTf)3, showed high catalytic activity for Mannich-type, Mukaiyama aldol, and Michael reactions. For example, compound 2 was treated with 1.5 equivalents of silyl enolate 3 in the presence of 10 mol% of PMI Sc(OTf)3 to give compound 4 in 96% yield. This catalyst was recovered by simple filtration and was reused three times without any loss of reactivity (2nd: 99% yield, 3rd: 97% yield). In all reactions, no Sc leaching was observed (less than 0.1 ppm: ICP analysis).
