Significance

An aerobic oxidation of benzylic alcohols with Pd(TFA)2BPy-Cu was reported. The self-supported divalent palladium complex 2 was obtained in 71% yield by mixing 1 and copper nitrate in water in the presence of triethylamine. Nanocluster assemblies were observed with SEM and TEM analysis. ICP analysis revealed the Pd/Cu ratio in the self-supported bipyridyl-palladium(II) complex 2 to be 1:0.91. High recyclability of catalyst 2 was also described.
