Cascade Transfer-Allylation and Isomerization with Ru/CeO2

Significance

A cascade reaction of transfer-­allylation and isomerization of aldehydes 1 with homoallylic alcohols 2 in the presence of a solid catalyst Ru/CeO2 was described. Thus, the reaction of aromatic aldehydes 1 and 2 was carried out with Ru/CeO2 at 170 ˚C to give the corresponding ketones 3a-h in 19-93% yield (8 examples) with formation of acetophenone (4). The catalyst was reused twice without loss of catalytic activity although the surface state of the catalyst was changed before and after the catalytic reaction.
