Significance

The directed metalation is an important method of functionalization of aromatic compounds. In a comparison with previously described metal bases this new zinc base displays much better chemoselectivity even for extremely sensitive substrates, such as nitroheteroarenes and heteroarylcarbaldehydes. The zincation reaction proceeds smoothly within several minutes at room temperature.
