The first synthesis of a hydantoin C-nucleoside, (±)-5-(ß-D- ribofuranosyl)-hydantoin, was achieved by way of a four-step reaction sequence from 1-O-Acetyl-5-O-(t-butyldiphenylsilyl)-2,3-O-isopropylidene-ß-D-ribofuranose.
