Herein, a scalable synthesis of suitable acridinium dyes and their application in photoredox deuterations are described. The acridinium catalysts, prepared on multi-gram scale, allowed the deuteration of a pharmaceutically relevant scaffold in high yield and selectivity under mild conditions.
