Significance

Fluostatin C, isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces strain Acta 1383, exhibits antibiotic and antitumor activities. Achievement of a highly regioselective Diels-Alder reaction between the vinyldiene A and dienophile quinoneketal B was a critical step in the synthesis depicted here.
