Significance

N-Arylimidazoles and -benzimidazoles are widely present among the compounds with useful biological activity. This protocol overcomes a number of limitations that restrict the use of the previously developed methods for their preparation, like harsh conditions, low reaction generality or necessity to use toxic or unstable reagents. This method offers a good regioselectivity in the case of substituted imidazoles. It has a very broad substrate scope and uses commercially available catalysts.
