Abstract

From leaves of Penstemon strictus Benth. a new iridoid glucoside of unusual type in having an exocyclic double bond at C-8 on the cyclopentane ring, called strictoloside, has been isolated together with the known iridoid glucoside lamiide. From dried capsules of the same plant one further iridoid has been isolated which was proved to be penstemoside, respectively.
