Significance

With the emergence and obvious importance of green chemistry, the Katsuki group has created a nice protocol for the oxidation of sulfides in water without the need for surfactants. The reaction only requires the sulfide, the catalyst (1 mol%), and 1.5 equivalents of aqueous H2O2 with water as solvent. High enantioselectivities are obtained for a large scope of aryl-alkyl and aryl-aryl sulfide substrates.
