Significance

Itami and co-workers prepare functionalized C60 via a rhodium-catalyzed reaction with organoboron compounds. This new reaction offers advantages over traditional organolithium or Grignard-based nucleophilic functionalization reactions which suffer from high loadings of the organometallic, poor selectivity for monoaddition and low functional group compatibility.
