Significance

An alumina-supported Mo catalyst for the oxidation of aldimines to oxaziridines was developed. The catalyst (MoO3/Al2O3) was prepared from Al2O3 with (NH4)6Mo7O24H2O with a wet impregnation method, drying of the resulting alumina-supported Mo and subsequent calcination (eq. 1). The oxidation of aldimines with anhydrous TBHT toluene solution was carried out in the presence of MoO3/Al2O3 without additional organic solvents to give the corresponding oxaziridines in 96-98% yield (eq. 2).
