Zusammenfassung

Botulinumtoxin Typ A wird seit vielen Jahren in der Schmerztherapie eingesetzt. Neben einem analgetischen Effekt bei Dystonien sowie der Spastik wurde es experimentell bei myofaszialen Schmerzsyndromen, beim Kopfschmerz vom Spannungstyp, Migräne, Clusterkopfschmerz und bei Lumbago verwendet. Der vorliegende Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die vorliegende Literatur und stellt auch die zugrunde liegenden pathophysiologischen Überlegungen vor.

Abstract

Botulinum A toxin has been used for the treatment of pain for many years. Besides pain relief in dystonia and spasticity, it has been tried in myofascial pain syndromes, tension-type headaches, migraine, cluster headache, and back pain. This article gives a review of the existing literature and refers to pathophysiological mechanisms.
