The phosphorous oxytrichloride mediated condensation of diaroylbipyrroles 5a - e with the α-unsubstituted pyrrole 2 was found to produce diarylbisdipyrrins 6a - e in good to excellent yields. The method is compatible with a series of functional groups on the aryl substituents. This paper reports preparative and spectroscopic details for five new diarylbisdipyrrins as well as those for one meso-unsubstituted alkylbisdipyrrin.
