Although phosphorus containing ligands are commonly employed for enantioselective catalysis as components of organometallic complexes, recent years have seen a steady growth in the use of non-organometallic phosphorus reagents for similar applications. This review highlights some of the recent literature in this area to date, with particular reference to asymmetric reduction and to C-C and C-N bond forming reactions. The review also serves to highlight some areas of potential future development.
