Remarkable Fast Microwave-assisted N-Alkylation of Phthalimide in Dry Media

A new method of synthesis of N-alkylphthalimides via alkylation of phthalimide in ‘dry’ media under microwave irradiation has been elaborated. The reactions were carried out with high yield (49-95%) by simply mixing of phthalimide with an alkyl halide which was adsorbed on potassium carbonate. The irradiation of the mixtures in a domestic microwave oven leads in a remarkable short time (4-10 min) to the desired N-alkylphthalimides.
