Efficient syntheses of bis(η 5-tetrahydroindenyl)metal dichlorides, where metal is titanium, zirconium or hafnium are reported. A known, facile sigmatropic rearrangement of spiro[4.4]nona-1,3-diene is employed in constructing the tetrahydroindenyl ligand, thereby avoiding preparation and catalytic hydrogenation of the indenyl complexes.
