Diethylaluminum cyanide promotes the electrophilic assisted conjugate addition of cyanide to enantiomerically pure α,β-unsaturated oxazolines. Diastereofacial discrimination up to 4:1 was observed. Subsequent acid hydrolysis afforded substituted succinic acids without racemization.
