Lithium chloroallylide inserts regiospecifically into the alkyl-zirconium bond of mono- and bi-cyclic zirconacyclopentenes to afford allyl zirconium complexes. These may be further elaborated by the insertion of aldehydes in the presence of boron trifluoride etherate.
