The southern hemisphere S of theonellamide F (1), a bicyclic dodecapeptide form a marine sponge, was synthesized in its protected form 2 by the preparation of the building blocks of the nonproteinogenic amino acids, followed by the construction of the whole molecule utilizing diphenyl phosphorazidate or diethyl phosphorocyanidate as a coupling reagent.
