o,o′-Bis(biphenylylene)sulfurane readily reacts with various alcohols and phenols to give the corresponding 2-alkoxy or 2-phenoxybiphenyls in high yields via formation of oxy-sulfuranes [10-S-4(C4O)] or sulfonium salts.
