2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl p-toluenesulfonate (1) is treated successively with butyllithium and trialkylboranes to generate 1-alkyl-2,2-difluorovinylboranes 3 which in turn undergo stereospecific coupling reactions with 1-alkenyl halides in the presence of copper(I) iodide and a palladium catalyst to afford 1,1-difluoro-1,3-dienes 4 in good yields.
