Methyl 2-[bis(methylthio)methyleneamino]acrylate (1) was efficiently converted into methyl 1-[bis(methylthio)-methyleneamino]cyclopropanecarboxylate (3) by reaction with diazomethane. This transformation provides a novel and efficient route to 1-aminocyclopropanecarboxylic acid (ACC), which is found in many plants.
