Optically active C2 symmetric bipyridines 2 and 3 (8,8′-dimethyl-5,5′,6,6′,7,7′,8,8′-octahydro-2,2′-biquinoline and 7,7′-dimethyl-6,6′,7,7′-tetrahydro-5H,5′ H-2,2′-bi-1-pyrindine) were synthesized and their copper complexes were used as chiral catalysts for the enantioselective cyclopropanation of styrene by tert-butyl diazoacetate.
