A one-step cleavage of electron-rich double bonds to the corresponding aldehydes [e.g., 3,4-methylenedioxy-1-(1-propenyl)benzene → -3,4-methylenedioxybenzaldehyde] using a ruthenium-silicon-tungstate catalyst in an electrochemical two-phase double mediator system or with stoichiometric regeneration is retorted.
