In the presence of a catalytic amount of trimethylaluminum, the trialkylsilyl group in silyl ketene acetals [1-alkoxy / benzyloxy / cycloalkoxy-1-(trialkylsiloxy)ethylenes] smoothly under-goes a 1,3-rearrangement from oxygen to carbon, under very mild conditions, to give (trialkylsilyl)acetic acid esters.
