A variety of 3,4-disubstituted 4-oxoaldehydes can be prepared, in 54-80% yield, by the oxidative addition of 1,2-disubstituted trimethylsilyl enol ethers to ethyl vinyl ether promoted by cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate.
