Enantiomerically pure 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol derivatives 1b-d can be prepared in good yields from optically pure (R)-(+)-2-methyl-4-phenylseleno-1-butanol (2a) and (S)-(-)-acetate 2b, in turn prepared by an enantioselective transacetylation process in an organic solvent catalyzed by a lipase from Pseudomonas fluorescens (PFL).
