The utilization of six-carbon synthons [alkyl 3,5-bis tert-butyldiphenylsiloxy)-6-oxohexanoates] 1a-1d in the synthesis of alkyl(sodium) syn-(E)-7-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-isopropyl-2-phenyl-5-imidazolyl]-3,5-dihydroxy-6-heptenoates 6a, 6b and 2b using Horner-Emmons-Wadsworth methodology is described.
