The potassium anions associated with potassium cations complexed by 18-crown-6 ether (1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane) are applied in the preparation of cycloalkanone enolates. The first step of the reaction yields radical anions, which are capable of intermolecular disproportionation leading to ketone enolates along with corresponding alcoholates. The utility of this method for selective C-2 alkylation and acylation of cycloalkanones is discussed.
