Convenient Two-Step Conversion of Acid Chlorides to Terminal Alkynes

Acylation of ethoxycarbonylmethylenetriphenylphosphorane with acid chlorides followed by flash vacuum pyrolysis at 750 °C results in loss of Ph3PO and the ethoxycarbonyl group to give terminal alkynes in good overall yield.
