In this paper we present a simple and efficient two-step procedure for the preparation of triformylmethane from bromoacetic acid and dimethylformamide, synthesis of some triformylmethane derivatives of preparative importance, evidence for an intramolecular hydrogen bond in triformylmethane, based on its 1H-NMR spectra measured in deuterochloroform in the presence of trichloroacetyl isocyanate, and comments on some recent erroneous statements1 concerning the IR spectra of triformylmethane.
