New Chiral Auxiliaries: Synthesis of Optically Active Cyclopentanecarboxylic Acids from (-)-Camphanic Acid A general entry into novel chiral auxiliaries derived from 1-hydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-2,2,3-trimethylcyclopentanecarboxylic acid consists of reduction of camphanic acid followed by regioselective O-alkylation reactions as exemplified by the synthesis of (1S,3R)-1-benzyloxy-3-methoxymethyl-2,2,3-trimethylcyclopentanecarboxylic acid.
