Selenazolopyridines, a class of previously unknown fused polyheterocycles, can be conveniently prepared by reacting selenoesters with the lithium derivative of various aminochloropyridines. The 2-aryl[5,4-b], -[4,5-c] and -[4,5-b] examples of the series have been synthesized by this method.
