An efficient synthesis of bicyclo[3.3.0]oct-1-en-3-one (1) is reported which utilizes an intramolecular Horner-Emmons reaction. This reaction proceeds under phase transfer conditions and affords the bicyclic enone in good yields on a reasonably large scale.
