Facial Plastic Surgery (FPS) was created in 1984 to provide surgeons with tried-and-true as well as newer, innovative techniques in facial plastic surgery. Well-respected leaders in the field were able to tap into the best minds in our field to describe their techniques and their results. As the specialty grew, the contributions of these respected experts and their contributions to FPS served as a trusted source of state-of-the-art diagnosis and management in aesthetic and reconstructive facial surgery.

However, the Editorial Board realized that an even broader approach was necessary to stay abreast of the rapid changes occurring in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and we began accepting Original Research articles. We have received excellent submissions from all over the world and have published many outstanding articles from both established and younger researchers. With Thieme Connect (www.thieme-connect.com), readers can access articles not just from the current and past issues. By using the eFirst feature, you can read articles before they appear in a print journal, generally within 6 weeks of being reviewed and accepted for publication. While this has been a resounding success at bringing the latest research to you quickly, we have found it challenging to keep up with this success.

To ensure quality research articles are published and presented to our readers in print form as quickly as possible, we have devoted this issue of FPS to Original Research. These articles have passed a rigorous peer-review process and we feel add substantively to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery literature. In addition, Dr. Yves Saban has collected excellent articles examining the anatomic basis of our surgical procedures.

We hope you enjoy this issue of FPS. It embodies the spirit of our specialty—inquisitive, thoughtful, open, and challenging. We welcome your submissions to FPS, as well as suggestions on how the journal can be more responsive to your needs.
