Jose Alemany, MD, FICA (1935–2017)

Dr. Jose Alemany received a medical degree from the University of Madrid in 1959 and a Dr. med. from the University of Düsseldorf in 1964. After completing his residency in general surgery and vascular surgery in Bottrop, he was awarded a scholarship at the Baylor University in Houston, Texas in 1968 under Professor De Bakey and was a Guest Assistant in the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1972 under Professor Effler. Since 1972 Dr. Alemany has served as Chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery in Knappschafts-Khs Bottrop. A member of many professional societies, and served as a Vice President, President and Member of the Board of Directors of the International College of Angiology. He received the Professor John B. Chang Research Achievement Award for excellence in research, clinical service and teaching in 2001. Dr. Alemany, a prolific author with more than 120 publications served as an Editor of the International Journal of Angiology.
